I banned my MOH from my bachelorette after her shocking diagnosis – her husband says I’m selfish but it won’t be fun

A WOMAN has taken to Reddit to share how her best friend’s diagnosis got in the way of her dream wedding since she was her maid of honor.

In a post on the website where she could remain anonymous, she claimed she was being considerate of her health when considered kicking her out of the wedding party.

Her best friend had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis

“Last year my fiancée proposed to me and, of course, I was thrilled. Call me a silly girl but I’ve always imagined my dream wedding,” she wrote.

“So I asked my best friend to be my maid of honor. We’ve been best friends since high school and I had been her maid of honor.

“She was really happy at first, but then started becoming distant. As my maid of honor, I had hoped she would have been helping me plan the event and sending me wedding ideas but she hardly did.

“When I was her maid of honor, I was always sending her ideas for her bachelorette, bridal shower, dress, and reception.

“She has barely done that for me though. And when I brought it up with her she made an effort to get involved but she still hardly initiated anything.

“She missed two of the wedding expos we were supposed to go to recently because she was too tired.”

She continued: “Recently she told me that the reason she had become distant was due to the fact that she was having health problems.

“She had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

“Of course, I now understand why she sometimes couldn’t make it to the wedding expos. Obviously, I am upset to hear she has a chronic illness, and I will support her.

“But it made me wonder if she should stay my maid of honor. I was concerned that her health would make it difficult.

“When I mentioned this to her, she promised me that she would still be up to it. It wasn’t like she had to be in the hospital, but I was still worried.

“She was tired all the time, would fall over at times, her hands would shake, she’d have trouble walking fast and even had to go to the bathroom every five minutes.

“All these things made it difficult for her to stay my maid of honor. She might have even struggled on the day of.

“It was a really hard decision for me because I’ve always wanted her there as my maid of honor but I told her she wasn’t going to be able to be it anymore.

“She was sad when I told her, but she understood. Later her husband called me, furious. He said she was having a hard time with her diagnosis and needed my support.

“But instead I had made it all about my ‘perfect wedding’ and excluded her which broke her heart. He said I was being an a**hole and acting selfishly. But she’s still invited to the wedding.

“I disagreed. I love my boyfriend but I also had to think about my wedding.”

After she posted her story, a lot of the comments criticized her for not standing by her initial choice for maid of honor.

One person wrote: “If this was my best friend, I would have kept her as my maid of honor, and just canceled any upcoming bridal parties.

“And instead devoted the bridal party’s time and energy into helping my best friend feel better.”

Another said: “You are making it about what she can do for you instead of her being the important person in your life that you want standing by your side.”
