I dumped my man for buying me a Yankee Candle on Valentine’s Day – people say I’m shallow but I want gold star treatment
WHEN it comes to showing your love, how much should you spend on a Valentine’s Day gift?
Dog walker Victoria Wilson expects guys to go “all-out” on February 14th and reveals she dumped her boyfriend of just under a year after he bought her a "cheap Yankee candle".
The 39-year-old from Sandy, Bedfordshire, told The Sun: “Some people might think I’m high maintenance but I just know my worth.
“If a guy doesn’t make an effort and pull out all the stops to impress you, then they aren't that into you.
“There is nothing more cringe than service station flowers and a cheap card that they’ve bought five minutes before.
“I expect gold star treatment - an expensive bouquet of red roses, a well-thought-out card, sexy lingerie, nice jewellery and a lovely meal out.

"Anything less is a failure in my eyes. It should be all about me, and them showing their love for me.”
But Victoria could be disappointed this February 14th, as according to our exclusive Sun Valentine's Day survey, nearly half of Brits will spend less than £10 on a romantic gift for their other half.
Like her, one in 10 said they would dump their other half if they didn’t receive a present.
“I’m used to being spoiled by men, but a few years ago a guy bought me a Yankee candle for the big day,” she recalled.

“I was in shock and thought it was a joke. When it became clear it wasn’t, I dumped him there and then.
“Another time, an ex deliberately started an argument so he wouldn’t have to take me out for a nice evening. I could see right through his act.
“He was being a cheapskate. His present also arrived a week later and was broken.
"I was less than impressed. I put effort in so I expect it back.”
Victoria - who’s currently single - tells how she’s had some great Valentine's Day dates in the past.

"When I was younger I was dating a guy who bought a card that was the same size as me,” she explained.
“The whole room was filled with red balloons and flowers.
“Inside the giant card was a ticket to Tunisia for a week. It was a huge surprise and was amazing. I really appreciated the effort.
“Another guy used to spoil me with sexy underwear, impromptu romantic meals and send me expensive bouquets of roses.”
Victoria says she’s now careful with the type of guys she dates.
“If I get a whiff they’re stingy I won’t stay in the relationship,” she said.
