I’m getting married & my mum’s demanding I move the wedding – she wants to hold her 60th birthday at the reception

IF there’s one thing we know about weddings, it’s that they can be a huge source of tension in families.

But while most end up bickering over whether or not a second cousin twice-removed should be invited, one bride-to-be has found herself butting heads with her mother over something MUCH more unusual.

Sharing her dilemma on Reddit, the woman explained how her mum is demanding the wedding double up as her 60th birthday party.

The day her and her fiance set a date, they went over to her mother’s place to share the happy news.

But rather than just letting them enjoy the moment, the mother of the bride decided to make the demand there and then.

Naturally, the mother’s demand left the couple stunned.

She added: “I just don’t understand how someone could even ask that.

“I understand the whole ‘no one cares as much about your wedding as you do’, but this feels ridiculous.

“I feel like out of anyone other than my fiancé and I, my mum should be one of the people most excited, right?”

Needless to say, the couple refused to share their special day which left the mum “upset”.

She continued: “I will never understand her thinking, and I’m sure she’s going to bring it up again.

“Or do something else to make my wedding day about her. It’s what she does best, after all.”

Even though it’s been a source of awkwardness in the family, the bride found support by other members of the .

“That’s crazy narcissistic,” one replied.”Your wedding day is for you and your partner, she can’t just commandeer it.”

Another added: “She just showed you where her priorities lie. To her, it’s more important that people celebrate her birthday than it is to celebrate your marriage on the day of your wedding reception.”

Meanwhile, a third said: “One, your mom is out of line for asking this. Two, this may be the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard.”
