I loved the cute baby name I picked out for my son – but mum says it’s left dad so heartbroken he’s been crying
A MAN has revealed how going against family tradition has left his dad heartbroken and sobbing.
He went against the family tradition that the first-born son inherits his dad's name.
He explained on Reddit that he was going soon going to be a first-time dad, and his parents were extremely excited about it.
Expecting their son to go with family tradition, his dad brought him aside to tell him how proud he was.
He added: "He said he was proud of me, that I was going to be a good father, and all that stuff.
"Then he said he was going to be there for whatever I, my fiancee and little Timothy VI needed.

"Timothy is my name, as well as my dad's. One of the old traditions is that the first son inherits the name of his father, who inherited the name of his father, and so on.
"The same happens with the first daughter of each generation, but it's another name of course."
He said that he and his fiancee did not like the name Timothy so had decided to go with another name for their son, Aiden.
He corrected his dad on the name and added his dad seemed surprised at first but told him it was a cute name and would still be there to support them with whatever they needed.
But the next day he received a call from his mum and apparently his dad hadn't taken to the new name as well as he said.
She asked why they hadn't carried on the family tradition and that he had made his dad cry because of the decision.
He told her: "although I feel bad for my dad, I wasn't going to change the name my fiancee and I picked."
The soon-to-be dad asked if he was in the wrong for doing so and whether he should stick with the tradition, but many Reddit users told him not to change his mind.
One wrote: "Your baby your (and your fiancées) choice. If you wanted to you could always consider using it as a middle name but since you both don’t like it, you do you."

"Traditions are just peer pressure from dead people. Just because it has been done a certain way for generations before, doesn't automatically mean it has to be continued." Another commented.
A third added: "You name your baby what you want it to be. You honor your Dad by showing him what a good parent you will be and what you learned from him. Maybe use it as a middle name."
