The winter elements and mud can make your decking go grimy and slippery, but thankfully this four-step method will have it spotless in no time.

The first step to getting your decking looking new again, is to give it a quick rinse off, explains the .

But first, make sure to remove any furniture, plant pots, and give your decking a sweep to remove any loose debris and leaves.

Using a pressure washer or a standard hosepipe will do the trick, as it loosens mud and stubborn stains, making it easier for the washing stage.

Next, you should prepare a cleaning solution for the decking, you can use a generic one from the store or make your own at home for a fraction of the cost.

Pour two gallons of water into a bucket and head to your laundry cupboard to get some OxiClean or powdered oxygen bleach.

Make sure to wear gloves and goggles whilst cleaning the decking.

Stir until the powder has dissolved and add a cup of dish soap to complete the solution.

You can then apply your solution liberally with a clean broom over the planks.

Use the broom to work the solution into a lather until it turns foamy and leave on for 15 minutes to allow the ingredients to work their magic.

For stubborn stains or mould, you can add Borax to your cleaning solution.

You can also use a stiff-bristle brush with the powder bleach to spot clean.

Once it's been left to sit, rinse your decking using the hosepipe or pressure washer.

Let the deck dry naturally before applying any stain or paint.
