Mum quoted hundreds for her dream hallway makeover does it herself for less than £50 using bargains from B&Q
A MUM shared how she saved hundreds by installing a stunning slatted feature in her hallway for just £50 with B&Q products.
Tanya O’kane, 47, was originally quoted hundreds for a builder to install the on-trend feature but she didn’t want to spend that much.
So she took matters into her own hands, quite literally, but deciding to assemble it herself with £46 of B&Q supplies.
Speaking to Facebook group , Tanya said: “I came up with the idea of doing a slatted wall in my hallway, as I’ve seen a few businesses doing it and I liked it.
“It was super easy to do by myself as I love DIY and would give anything a go.
“I used softwood planed smooth timber strips from B&Q and No More Nails glue.

“I glued the first slat on, left it to dry til the next day and then was able to glue the rest using the narrow end of the wood as spacers.
“I cut the strips around the mirror to have the mirror sunk in as I only wanted it overlapping the mirror.

“I also used black paint below the slats to make the wood pop.
“My mitre saw and jigsaw made it easier.”
The savvy mum-of-three only had to buy wood and clue, which came to £46, saving a small fortune on the design.
She said: “With everything getting pricey at the moment including wood, I would rather try and do what I want myself.
“We are going on holiday this year for the first time in three years, so I would rather save and keep my money for that.”
The creative mum started an interiors instagram after she was diagnosed with breast cancer as it gave her a fun project while she was off work recovering.
She said: “It gave me something to keep myself occupied. I love interiors so it gave me a little boost to keep going and busy.
