The best place to plant them is on hills or under trees as they hate direct sunlight says Carol.

Carol particularly likes their foliage which can often have a marble effect on them.

The gardening expert uses a mixture of heavy clay soil and leaf mould to make sure they have plenty of drainage.

Carol explains leaf mould is mouldy leaves that have broken down and is great for growing plants that prefer natural soil.

Simply make a large hole in the soil and you can watch them bloom during the beginning of spring.

If you don't have a garden or have limited space you can still grow them says Carol.

Place them in a container which has holes in the bottom and put some bits of broken pots in the bottom to allow them to drain thoroughly.

Then use a mixture of compost and leaf mould for the soil.

It's always best to leave them out of direct sunlight as it can burn the flower.

Carol said after planting any plant you should give the soil a good drenching with water to help them settle into their new environment.

The expert said to do this every day for the first two weeks while the plants get used to their new home.

The show centres around Carol's garden at Glebe Cottage, where she has built her garden over the last 30 years.
