A CARPET RAKE

Available online on sites like Amazon, a carpet rake comes with small plastic or metal teeth - and these will make your tired looking carpets appear fluffier and new.

All you have to do is simply rake towards you, in the opposite direction of the pile.

However, it's important to warn that this tool shouldn't be used on woven carpets.

SHAVING FOAM HACK

Amongst a few other regular household items that work like a charm when cleaning the carpet is shaving foam.

Helping with most stains, even stubborn ones such as grease or bright lipstick, shaving foam, when used correctly, can bring your carpet back to life.

For this, all you have to do is squirt the product on the stain, leave for around 30 minutes and then blot with a dry cloth.

BAKING SODA

Baking soda has become all the rage recently - from banishing moss to washing clothes, it appears there's use of this kitchen ingredient in almost every aspect in your life.

And if you're carpet has seen better days, it might be worth trying to bring it back to life with a cheap baking soda hack.

Not only does this powder clean but it also kills bacteria, refreshes the pile and can even remove odours too.

For this trick, you have to apply baking soda all over your carpet, then use a stiff brush to work it in the material, rubbing it in different directions.

Leave the baking soda overnight before vacuuming it up the next day.

CHANGE THE DECOR

You might not realise it, but it's not always the carpet that ruins the overall aesthetic of your room - it's the colour of your walls which might make the carpet appear more worn-out.

Experts explained that bright wall colours can show up grubby carpets, so it's worth thinking about toning down the shade to bring your carpet and walls into alignment.

WATER STAINS

Pesky water stains can really age your carpet making the room appear less welcoming.

Fortunately, there is a way to get rid of them, according to Laura De Barra, an author and a property portfolio developer.

A mix of 30/70 vinegar and water can be sprayed lightly on to a water stain and then dabbed out with a clean cloth.

‘'Vinegar’s PH can loosen the water stain, especially at the edges which tend to be the most visible,’' Laura explained in .

‘'Apply and then pat until the mix is removed, taking the water stain with it.

‘'Make sure you do not leave any moisture to sit on the carpet afterward, as this is what will have caused the original stain.

''Dab over with a dry cloth to remove any excess moisture and allow to air dry.

‘'Repeat if the stain has lightened but not lifted entirely.’'

A BLOW-DRY

A blow-dry can make you feel like a million dollars - and it's not just your hair that appreciates a good blow-dry.

First, start by spritzing some warm water onto the matted area before gently blow-drying with a hairdryer.
