NO GO

I’m a fashion expert, ‘jeans and a nice top’ makes you look tacky when you go out – even worse if it’s skinnies

IT'S a go-to for every woman on a night out but many make mistakes that make them look tacky, here Clemmie Fieldsend says what you should avoid to keep your outfits stylish.

Fashion has two sides, either you're a trend follower, obsessed with the latest catwalk and designer looks or you stick to your own rule book and stand out on your own.

Jeans and a nice top falls into neither of those categories - therefore not fashionable.

It’s a fail safe look that lacks imagination and any sense of style or flair.

The look has become so common it's now tacky, anything too popular eventually becomes naff.

SKINNY JEANS

Skinny jeans have had their day. With memes floating around social media saying if you remember skinny jeans you’re over 35 - ouch. No one wants to be as basic as a meme.

Second skin jeans show off every unwanted lump and bump (including camel toe) swap your spray ons for a more flattering and comfortable straight or wide leg that elongates your bottom half and makes you look taller.

BUSTING OUT BOOBS

Nothing worse than seeing a pair of boobs caged in a pulled too-tight top with a hefty spill over.

The four-boob look can be avoided by going up a size or loosening your wrap top to a more comfortable fit and never think a strapless bra is a good idea if your top is tight, no matter your size. Even Meghan Markle got that wrong.

Your bust will still have ample cleavage but a more subtle and attractive cleavage.

SPAGHETTI STRAPS

Thin straps on a camisole tucked into jeans can create a laid back, effortless look when the top half of the look isn’t overly tight.

Spaghetti straps that dig into your shoulders make the golden arches on your shoulder in a pronounced “M” shape.

Try loosening the straps if possible or look for styles that are longer in the body so they can be tucked into your trousers but still have room for a blouson tuck.

REVEALING RIPS

Distressed, torn or stained jeans are a huge no-no.

Rips at the knees may look all well and good standing in front of the mirror when you’re at home, but as soon as you walk or sit down your flesh, wrinkly and pale knees poke through - revealing let's face it the most unattractive part of any body.

If you can’t let rips go, try boyfriend baggy styles with minimal fraying. Too much just looks like you haven’t bought any in years.

THIGH HIGH BOOTS

Over the knee boots are loved by Brits and they love them in jeans, unfortunately it's a dated and unflattering pairing.

Inevitably the boots have to have been tight around the thigh to stay up, but over the top of a pair of jeans causes a pinching effect about the leg, making your thighs look bigger than they are and creating a string of two sausages.

Plus, you spend the whole night hoicking them up - where's the fun in that?
