POT LUCK

People are finding out their old casserole dishes could be worth £11k – so do you have one lurking in your cupboard?

THEY were all the rage back in the 70's, but have been delegated to the back of many a cupboard in more recent years.

But if you're one of the people who has a CorningWare casserole dish you'd forgotten about, it might be time to dig it out - as they're fetching thousands online.

The dishes were usually white, and featured floral or blue decorations, as well as coming with a clear lid.

And if you have one of the more rare CorningWare designs - such as the Spice of Life range - you could be in for a generous payday.

In fact, dishes in this range, which feature greenery and vegetables, are currently listed on auction site eBay for upwards of £12,000.

One eBay seller told 7News that "demand has never been higher" for the dishes.

“My mother collected CorningWare and it was very popular back in the day, but it’s been gathering dust in our home for years,” she said.

“I’ve sold off a few pieces - with my mum’s blessing of course - and have made about £5,100 so far.

"I have another one listed at the moment, which I’m hoping to get around £1,400 for.

“I would never have thought that it could be so valuable. When I was younger, I thought it was just daggy.

“Now it’s making us more money than I ever dreamed.”

Glass expert Dean Six added to the Australian outlet that the renewed popularity of CorningWare is down to "baby boomers".

"Collecting is often what you remember, which is why this is big now because baby boomers are buying back what they grew up with," he said

"Boomers are decorating with these pieces in their homes."
