Luckily, a gardening expert has revealed the five simple steps you can take to make sure your plants still thrive even during a heatwave.
The first step is to make sure you are watering your plants thoroughly during the morning at the base of the plant.
This allows the roots to grow deeper into the soil where most of the water sits so they stay hydrated.

Another pro tip is to mulch your plants to help lock in the moisture.
Mulch is a combination of grass clippings, pine needles and shredded leaves and can help improve the soil’s structure, drainage, and nutrient-holding capacity as it decomposes.
You can apply two or three inches to your soil for the best effects.
If your plants are potted, it could be worth moving them to a larger pot that is light in colour.

Dark shades often absorb and retain heat which could be drying your plants out more.
Larget pots will also help with airflow and shading, and it's vital to make sure it has good drainage holes to stop the roots from drowning.
It could also be worth setting up a shady spot in your garden by using a beach umbrella or hooking up some cloth.
