it can be overwhelming for everyone involved, that's why 's parenting expert, Nikolina Kharoufeh, has shared her three top tips.

The parenting expert said the first thing to remember is that your child needs to be reminded they are being trained to use the toilet.

"A great habit to get into is to take your child to the bathroom the moment they wake up in the morning and go to bed at night," she said.

Nikolina explained that over time this will make it a habit for them without you having to remind them.

Potty training takes patience for everyone involved, and a lot of the waiting time comes when you're actually trying to get them to use the toilet.

Whether it's stage fright or waiting to go, make the process easier by giving them a distraction.

The parenting pro suggest having a station of books by the toilet to keep their mind off the task at hand and motivate them to carry on trying.

Lastly, Nikolia said it was extremely important to reward your kids when they do finally go to the toilet in the bathroom.

She said: "Make toilet training a really fun activity by introducing a reward chart.

"Hang it in their room and every time they successfully go to the bathroom make sure you check off a box every so often that earns them a reward, which is a nice little treat and congratulations on their success."

This way your child will know they are doing the right thing by going to the bathroom and encourage them to do it regularly.
