The real reason J-Lo changed her name to Affleck as ‘signal to the world’ & what it says about her previous 3 marriages
JENNIFER Lopez is officially a wife - but many fans are more interested in the news she's reportedly changed her surname.
Despite not doing so in her previous three marriages, J-Lo is said to have taken the surname Affleck after marrying Ben at 52, according to a picture .
Now a relationship expert has revealed the real reason she may have changed her name for the first time, as well as what it says about her previous three marriages.
Tracey Coates, relationship expert for , thinks the move could be a "signal to the world" about her new relationship.
She explains: “J-Lo has decided to change her last name after her fourth marriage, but many are wondering why she didn’t do this for her three previous husbands.
"There is no law in America that states that you must take someone’s last name when marrying them.

"J-Lo keeping ‘Lopez’ could be seen as empowering to women.
"But on the other hand, others may see it as a lack of commitment (to her previous husbands)."
Jennifer and Ben, who tied the knot in a "Las Vegas style ceremony" on July 16, were first engaged two decades ago in 2002.
After they split, J-Lo married Marc Anthony, with whom she shares her 14-year-old twins Emme and Max, while Ben married Jennifer Garner, mom to his kis Violet, 16; Seraphina, 13; and Samuel, 10.
Marc was J-Lo's third husband - having previously been married to Cris Judd between 2001 and 2003 and Ojani Noa between 1997 and 1998.
She was also engaged to Alex Rodriguez (A-Rod), who Jennifer dated between 2017 and 2021, but the pair never made it down the aisle.
Tracey adds: “Back in 2008, J-Lo announced that her relationship with Ben Affleck was over, noting it as a ‘painful breakup’.
"This may have had some influence on her taking his last name this time around to show true commitment to him and their marriage.
"Becoming Jennifer Affleck is almost to be seen as a consolidation of the marriage this time round, and shows to the rest of the world that they are determined to make it work."
Despite these public signals, the singer's fans need not worry she'll be rebranding as the notably less catchy J-Aff.

Tracey adds: “J-Lo may have taken Affleck’s last name, but she will be keeping Lopez (J-Lo) as her stage name.
"Not only is this the name that her fans know her famously by, but it also highlights you don’t have to completely change every aspect of your life when you marry someone, including changing your last name.”
