I tried the SKIMS metallic collection – there was no padding where I needed it and the jumpsuit left me totally exposed
WHEN Kim Kardashian launched the SKIMS metallic swimwear collection, excited shoppers couldn’t wait to try unique silhouettes which ranged from jumpsuits to monokinis to bandeau tops.
One fashion fan ordered three swimsuits from the launch, but not every style suited her needs.
On her YouTube and TikTok channels, fashion influencer Manny, aka Manny Boo, assembles outfits and reviews brand launches for a collected 267k followers.
Manny was eager to try out the SKIMS swim offerings for summer, especially when with a glamorous campaign.
“Let’s take a moment to appreciate what we’re working with,” Manny said at the start of her review, pulling up the SKIMS Instagram account to appreciate the photoshoot.
“Kim slayed. Retro Barbie. We need,” she added, holding up her new SKIMS packages, “and we have!”
The first item Manny tried on was a signature look from the launch: the , $108, which she ordered in a size large.
“There’s going to be minimal coverage on the bust,” she warned. “The only thing that this swimsuit doesn’t have that I would’ve like is pads.”
Though there were no pads in the bust, Manny said, the monokini was double-lined with quality stitching, so she wasn’t worried about unwelcome chest spillage.
As soon as she put on the monokini, Manny was thrilled. “Tell me I don’t look like I should’ve been in the marketing campaign,” she said, smiling in front of her mirror. “Is this not beautiful?”
She even posed for a photo with her dog, Coco, replicating the editorial shoots from the brand.
“I feel sexy. It has just enough coverage,” Manny added, turning so the camera could capture her backside.
“It gives the perfect amount of cheekiness without being too scandalous,” she said triumphantly. “You need this.”
Still thrilled about the monokini’s success, Manny prepared to try on her only two-piece purchase from the collection.
She ordered the , $48, and the , $54, both in a size large.
Although the bandeau top had no padding, the material had plenty of stretch.
“It’s a nice stretch, but it compresses back,” Manny said, holding up the flexible fabric for the camera. It also included a slim halter strap, which allowed added security.
She paired the bandeau with biker-style shorts in the same silvery tone.
Before trying it on, Manny confessed that she didn’t intend to wear the outfit in the water. “Would I wear this combo to the pool? Probably not,” she told viewers.
“I love it for just doing regular daily things,” she said. “I would wear it to the club.”
But once the clothes were on her body, she had a change of heart. The top was comfortable and fit perfectly, but the shorts were unflattering.
“These shorts are just a little bit too tight,” Manny said. Turning around, she showed viewers her main concern: the area underneath her seat, where fabric bunched and gathered on her legs.
“It’s not cute, the way it gathers here, exposing every little imperfection,” she explained.
With the memory of the swim shorts fresh on her mind, Manny’s enthusiasm flagged a little before she could , $128.
She also intended to wear this piece as a jumpsuit out on the town.
The fashion influencer ordered the suit in a size extra-large, one step up from the other pieces she ordered from SKIMS. After putting on the suit, Manny was left with a totally NSFW situation.
“So, for obvious reasons, I will not be removing my hands,” she joked to viewers.
Standing in front of the camera, Manny covered both breasts with her hands, because the swimsuit simply didn’t go far enough up her chest to cover it.
“I don’t think this is long-torso friendly,” Manny said. “They do have these available in larger sizes, I just don’t think I’ll be ordering this again.”
She turned to show viewers her backside, where the fabric around her legs had bunched and gathered in an unflattering way – just like with the swim shorts.

Manny was surprised to have the same problem, though she’d bought the cycle suit was in a larger size.
Despite her dashed plans for metallic clubwear, Manny was happy that she purchased the bandeau and monokini, and said she was impressed with the SKIMS fabric even if every style wasn’t for her.
