Despite the differences, it's pretty safe to say that there is one stop we all agree on - incorporating moisturiser in out night-time routine.

However, according to one expert, this is a major mistake that could actually be doing more harm than good - and also cost you a lot of money.

The guru, , took it to social media to explain why using moisturiser before bedtime might not be a good idea.

''Everyone out there goes to bed at night, they go their bathroom, they clean their faces and then they apply a thick layer of moisturiser.

''The reality is this, okay, your skin cells are designer to go from the base of the membrane to the surface and then to fall off.

''So if you put on moisturisers at night, which is the prime time that your body is geared up to endure this process, all you're doing is keeping those dead, gross skin cells sucked up right next to your skin.

''There's no point there, there's no reason to do that.

''I know this is gonna p*ss a lot of people off - but the truth is moisturiser at night is not necessary.

''A calming mask, yeah, sure, that's fine.

''But don't waste your time, don't waste your money using tons of moisturiser right before you go to sleep.''

He went on joking: ''Your bedroom is pretty even, it's not as dry as the Sahara desert. Your pillow doesn't need the moisturiser, that's for sure.

''So why throw away your resources and your expensive products at night when it's the worst possible time to use them?''

Going against everything many have been taught, caused a lot of backlash, with many disagreeing.

One viewer said: ''This is totally opposite from everything I’ve ever heard!''

Another penned: ''Not covinced, but thanks [sic].''

Someone else commented: ''I love how my skin looks in the morning after I've moisturized in the night.''
