WATER WORKS

Mrs Hinch fans reveal how to ‘melt off’ limescale clogging up your loo and taps in two minutes and it costs just 2p

IF you live in an area with particularly hard water then you’ll likely have had to deal with limescale at some point.

Limescale forms when hard water evaporates, which leads to calcium and magnesium combining.

Limescale can develop on any surface where this evaporation occurs, from kettles and boilers to toilets and sinks.

Now cleaning fanatics in the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group have shared their top methods for getting rid of limescale - including a 2p hack for melting it off.

Posting in the group one individual asked how to remove limescale buildup from her toilet, and received over 100 answers.

“Wet a 2p piece and the limescale will melt off”, wrote one cleaning pro.

Sharing the same tip another wrote: “A 2p works. I did it with my toilet when I moved into my property. Holding it at a slight angle, just rub the limescale build up.

“Almost like you are chipping it away.”

This tip works as the 2p coin creates a chemical reaction between the copper and limescale, which causes it to break down.

Some commenters shared some other tips, with one adding: “Black Harpic down your toilet overnight, you can also buy the tablets which are great too.

“I used the bleach three nights in a row when I moved into my new place and my toilet came up great.”

And another gave a more natural alternative: “Bicarbonate of soda and lemon juice.

“It does the trick if you’re patient enough and don’t forget to use gloves.”
