TEACHER TROUBLE

I’m a teacher and it’s so hard for me to choose a baby name… I thought I’d settled on one then my dad said he HATED it

IT'S hard enough for parents to choose a name for their baby.

But for teachers that task is almost impossible, as there are so many monikers they associate with their students - old and new.

A teacher who is expecting her second daughter this November explained in a message to the that she had all but settled on a name for her baby girl, until her dad piped up and said he hated it.

"I have a baby name dilemma, we are due the first of November with our second daughter," the message read.

"Our first daughter is named Magnolia Grace.

"We would like something out of the top 100 - nothing common but not crazy.

"I’m a teacher and it’s really hard for me to pick out a name.

"I was 100% on Clementine until my dad said he hated it.

"Need as much help as possible."

The teacher, called Hallie, added that the names they like are Clementine, Maple and Daisy, but they are "open to more".

Responding to the message, baby name guru SJ Strum mused: "Clementine is lovely but I don’t imagine a grandad loving it. I do like Clementine a lot and I think I even had it on my list, especially as I was having a Christmas baby and was thinking Christmas clementines.

"But then I just don't like Clemmie. I’m just not a fan of Clemmie as a nickname, and I know quite a lot of Clemmies."

SJ then revealed some of the names she wanted to throw in the mix as potential monikers for Hallie's daughter.

"I quite like the idea, for a sister for Magnolia, the name Annie," she began.

"It’s much less popular than you think.

"It’s outside the top 100 and it’s creeping in on a few lists as an underused vintage name.

"The middle name for Annie I liked Sage, it’s a sort of botanical name - Annie Sage."

Next, SJ suggested Constance Pearl.

"I wondered if she might like Constance with the nickname Connie," she said.

"So she’s got Magnolia and Connie, or Maggie and Connie."

She also liked Bellamy or Bellamie, which means "beautiful friend".

"The middle name I’ve done for it... is Winsome, which means agreeable. So it could be Bellamie Winsome.

";The only thing is that it looks like Win some - you win some, you lose some."

It remains to be seen whether or not Hallie settles on any of the names for her daughter, which will hopefully be revealed in a future Baby Name Envy episode.
