BIND YOUR TOES: I’m not suggesting a return to inhuman measures used historically to change the shape of people’s feet, but use microporous tape or a large plaster to bind your third and fourth toe together when in heels.

This will relieve pressure on the nerves on the bottom of your feet, making it easier to stand and walk without feeling the pinch around your toes.

LEAN BACK: Leaning back slightly when wearing heels means your body weight will be more centred.

This relieves pressure on neck muscles, knees and toes.

STRETCH FIRST: There’s no need to walk around the house in your thick winter socks to break heels in.

Spend a minute or two manipulating the backs of the heels and around the toe area with your thumb and finger so they have more give when you walk.

This also prevents misshaping the shoe, making them harder to walk in.

Avoid this by using superglue to create three lines on the inside of the shoe that sits against your heel.

Wait for it to dry before putting your foot in.

This ribbed effect acts as a grip on your foot – and it won’t snag your tights and won’t hurt either.

NUMB YOUR FEET: Put numbing cream (as little as £3.99 from pharmacies) on your feet when wearing heels. It works well.

SHOULDERS BACK: Holding your shoulders back and down with relaxed arms that can swing (this acts as a balancing tool) will help with walking and cutting out any tension in your knees, but also makes your strut more impressive too, win-win.
