Posting on Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, one woman asked fellow cleaners for advice on how to clean stainless steel. 

Claire McNicol wrote: “Hello lovely people! Does anyone have any recommendations for cleaning, what appears to be, rust off a stainless steel towel rail radiator? Many thanks.”

The post was inundated with comments in minutes as other Mrs Hinch fans had a plethora of tips and tricks to offer.

But one hack stood out from the rest, especially as it costs just pennies and many may already have the secret in their kitchen cupboards – tin foil. 

Tin foil costs just 68p in Asda and is similarly cheap in other supermarkets and shops.

Interestingly, it is an effective household product for getting rid of rust on stainless steel surfaces. 

One person wrote: “Tomato sauce with scrunched up tin foil rubbed hard works a treat.”

A second recommended: “Screwed up foil, works great. Give it a good rub.”
