The medical reason Kim Kardashian always has bare, short nails while her sisters prefer long talons
LONG, pointed, colorful nails have become a staple in the Kardashian family – but not for one sister.
While Khloe and Kylie often sport what can only be characterized as their "Kardashian claws," Kim's nails remain bare, and there's a medical reason why.
Between ruby red talons and rainbow french tips, Khloe and Kylie have a new set of acrylics for almost every episode of The Kardashians on Hulu.
Wearing inch-long nails isn't an issue for these trendy sisters, even as they carry out their motherly duties.
On the other hand, the two eldest sisters don a more natural look.
In Kourtney's case, short and simple could be her preferred nail choice. But for Kim, it's not as much of an option.

Though the fashion mogul has been seen with longer nails in the past, she can no longer keep them on for a prolonged period.
In an interview with , Kim mentioned the impracticality of having long nails as a law student.
"I can't do long nails," she openly expressed.
Even though she says having nails like her sisters' elicits a new attitude and confidence boost, she can't get them again.

But it's not just because writing papers and turning pages is harder to do with the claws on; a medical reason is stopping her.
Kim's psoriasis diagnosis is to blame.
At age 25, Kim began battling psoriasis after she experienced her first flare-up caused by a "common cold."
According to the , psoriasis is an autoimmune condition that "causes patches of thick red skin and silvery scales on the elbows, knees, scalp, lower back, face, palms, and soles of feet."
The 42-year-old has been dealing with irregular itchy patches and one consistently irritated spot on her lower leg.
For five years, her psoriasis seemed to go away, but as she entered her early thirties, the celebrity revealed the return of her condition in a exclusive.
"One night, I woke up to use the restroom and I physically couldn’t pick up my phone," Kim admitted.
"I had psoriatic arthritis. It’s similar to arthritis that can stem from psoriasis and it can come and go."
There's no cure for this autoimmune issue; only topical treatments and natural remedies keep it under control.
Kim has tried everything from herbal tea to UV rays.
"I live a healthy life and try to eat as plant-based as possible and drink sea moss smoothies. With all the stress in life, I try to make sure I take time for myself so that I am centered," she said.
Ultimately, the mother of four has settled on embracing her condition rather than feeling embarrassed about it.
However, her psoriasis does prevent her from getting those "Kardashian claws."
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, "Nail polish and gentle nail buffing are okay and a great way to hide dents (nail pitting) that can develop when you have nail psoriasis."
"Artificial nails, however, can increase the risk of your nails separating from your fingers."
Even gel nail polish isn't recommended for individuals with psoriasis, as reported by .
The material or adhesive used to secure artificial nails can likely cause a flare-up.

"Acrylic nails can be particularly damaging. Because of how they’re applied," the article stated.
Although this would be more of an issue for Khloe and Kylie, it's sad to know the style queen can't hop on the talon trend anymore.
