Despite the image appearing to show a deserted building in the middle of nowhere, there is danger concealed in this wintery forest.

The secluded wilderness and sparse trees have proved the perfect hiding spot for this gunman to take aim from.

The sniper expertly blended in with his surroundings as artist Simon Menner captured the incredible image.

The seasoned photographer was granted permission to watch marksmen in action with the armies of Germany, Latvia and Lithuania.

He spent six years following snipers on training exercises to capture their remarkable ability to camouflage into their environment.

Simon watched them help each other make their "ghillie suits" using natural elements such as leaves and dead grass to match each landscape.

His  - called Disappearing Act - appear at first glance to be quiet and sometimes eerie landscapes, from sunny meadows to fog-shrouded mountains.

Despite the freezing temperatures, he still managed to secure the money shot - that has left people stumped.

But you may escape with your life if you manage to locate the sharpshooter in time.

For those who grew frustrated with trying to decipher the gunman's vantage spot, fear not - as we have the answer.

If you take a closer look at the bleak building, you may notice something sinister lurking in the upper floor window.

The sneaky sniper hid himself in plain sight, as seen in the follow-up picture below.

Simon said he found fans' reaction to his mind-boggling photography "fascinating."

He told : "In a way the interesting part is when the story happens in their minds.

"They look for the sniper and think they found them, but then begin to question themselves. I find that fascinating."
