The secluded wilderness and sparse trees have proved the perfect hiding spot for this gunman to take aim from.

The sniper expertly blended in with his surroundings as artist Simon Menner captured the incredible image.

The seasoned photographer was granted permission to watch marksmen in action with the armies of Germany, Latvia and Lithuania.

- called Disappearing Act - appear at first glance to be quiet and sometimes eerie landscapes, from sunny meadows to fog-shrouded mountains.

Despite the freezing temperatures, he still managed to secure the money shot - that has left people stumped.
