Harry claims Queen was ‘sad’ but ‘not surprised’ Sussexes quit royal duty to move to America

THE Queen was “sad” but “not surprised” that the Sussexes quit royal duty to move to America, Harry claimed yesterday.

The Duke of Sussex appeared to suggest his grandmother was sidelined by Charles and William in Megxit talks two years ago.

Just last month on his Netflix show Harry claimed his father told “lies” and his brother “screamed and shouted” at the Sandringham Summit that saw the Sussexes exit for the USA.

Speaking during interviews to promote his book Spare, which is released today, Harry denied the Queen, who died in September aged 96, had been angry.

He said: “No. My grandmother and I had a very good relationship.

“It was never a surprise to anybody, least of all her.

“She knew what was going on. She knew how hard it was.

“She never said to me that she was angry.

“I think she was sad that it got to that point.”

The Sussexes had previously been accused of “blindsiding” the Queen by going public with their Megxit plans.

At the time The Sun understood the Queen was “upset” and Charles and William were “incandescent with rage” when the now infamous message announcing the Sussexes wanted out appeared on the Sussex Royal Instagram account on January 9 2020.

But Harry told Good Morning America: “I had many, many conversations with her both in the UK over the years and in the run-up to the point of this change, so it was never a surprise to anybody, least of all her.”

Harry also confessed his mother Princess Diana would be “heartbroken” his relationship with his older brother is at rock bottom.

His book claims that William had knocked him to the ground in the kitchen and land on a dog bowl during one row.

Harry said: “I think she’d be sad and looking at it long term to know that there were certain things we need to go through in order to heal the relationship, I think she would be heartbroken that it’s ended up where it ended up.

“Heartbroken about the fact that William, his office were part of these stories and William and I made a deal no matter what we would never let our offices fight against each other.”

He claimed William’s aides had broken “that pact”.

Asked if he thinks he has any responsibility in the breakdown of the relationship, Harry replied: “Without question. Sure.”

Rob Jobson, royal author and expert, said: “Diana would be heartbroken that the brothers do not speak, Harry is right.

“All well and good saying what Diana would have wanted, but Harry has done the opposite of her wishes and left William in an impossible position.

“The chances of this being healed are very small.”
