The tip, posted on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, uses one of the cheapest household products around to shift tough stains.

The advice flooded in when a user posted a picture of a badly marked cooking dish, begging: "How can I get these marks off my oven dish?

"I have tried everything that i can think of. Have run out of ideas."

Fortunately commenters revealed their special secret - dishwasher tablets.

One wrote: "Couple of dishwasher tablets pour over boiling water and leave overnight, then scrub with Brillo pad."

Another suggested: "Washing powder (non bio is fine) add boiling water. Leave for an hour. Magic!"

A third recommended rubbing a wet dishwasher tablet directly onto the marks instead.

It's perhaps not surprising that the tablets work so well, given that they are designed to perform a similar job in a dishwasher.

They have an abrasive surface which can blast through tough stains, without scratching the dish beneath.

A bag of 30 tablets can be purchased from Asda for just £1.34, working out at around 4.5p per tablet.

The advice then stopped flowing when a fierce debate then broke out about whether to soak a dish directly after use, with some pointing out that the rapid temperature change can cause cracking.

Mrs Hinch fans have also recently raved about an Aldi detergent that shifts stubborn stains on clothes.

It comes after one savvy shopper tested whether the same cleaning effect could be achieved after halving their dishwasher tablets, making them go twice as far.

Meanwhile, a cleaning pro shared their tips on how to keep your oven sparkling and get rid of food marks.
