International Women’s Day: The Sun celebrates with campaign redefining what it means to be a woman
INTERNATIONAL Women’s Day is a time to celebrate women from all around the world and all walks of life.
Every year on March 8 females come together to unite against prejudice, inequality and to raise awareness about discrimination.
To celebrate the day this year The Sun has created a nationwide campaign called ‘We Define It’ and this is what it’s all about.
It offers an authentic take on the different empowering qualities that make up modern women all defined in our female readers’ own voices.
Yvonne, who works in the male dominated field of legal tech, said the quality that best defined her was being FEARLESS: “It’s what gives me a voice in a room full of men.
“Walking into that room and being a fearless advocate on behalf of other women.”
Astra, a contractor, felt that being BOLD was a vital quality for a modern woman, she explained: “It’s essential for progression in life.
“Standing up for what you believe, being true to yourself and being willing to embrace the challenges, even if you face knockbacks.”
Teaching assistant Skye says she was taught to be BRAVE and UNAPOLOGETIC by her mum, she explained she's inspired: "Coming from a family that is full of strong, empowering females, my family are very female heavy my nan, my aunt, my cousins but my mum in particular.
"She is a breast cancer survivor and she is the bravest woman that I know and thanks to her, I'm unapologetic."
Laura, who put her career on hold to be a full time carer for her non-verbal, non-mobile son shared her definition of STRENGTH: “There’s physical strength but much more important than that is the emotional and mental strength you need to care for someone 24 hours a day.”
While Vikki, a mum to seven amazing children, spoke about LOVE and being loved as the emotion that empowers her.
She said: “The love that you get from having family and children around you is definitely what has made my life so amazing.
"Being loved is the glue that holds us all together.”
