ACCORDING to this fashion expert you should avoid these five styles of flat shoes - they might be comfortable but they're doing you no favours and can look so tacky.

Fashion expert prefers to keep things simple when it comes to shoes, so anything overly flashy or trendy is a huge no-no.

"I feel like every time I go shopping all I see are shoes that look like this," Anna said as she held up a rubber pair of red sliders.

She explained why you should avoid certain styles and what you should wear instead if you want to avoid looking cheap and basic.

Dad sandals

This type of shoe might be comfortable and practical, especially during the summer months, but the truth is you can do a lot better when it comes to sandals, Anna explained.

Dad sandals typically have thick Velcro straps and a chunky black sole - just imagine something your own dad would wear on holiday and there you have it.

Anna suggested going for something more subtle like black sling-backs instead, for a timeless look that doesn't look like it's been pinched from your dad's wardrobe.

Anything with chains

It really doesn't matter how nice the shoe is, if it's got a fake looking chain it's a no from Anna.

"It does cheapen the appearance and it doesn't look very expensive," she said.

"I'm team ballet flat," she continued, explaining that the simple and chic look will always look more posh than gaudy chains on any style of flat shoe or sandals.

If you can, take the chain off any shoes you already have to instantly make them look more expensive, the fashion expert reccomeded.

Sliders

Despite being one of the most popular summer shoes, they're never going to win Anna over.

And although they're bad on their own, they're even worse when paired with socks.

"For me this is a cleaning shoe. I would only wear this at home whenever I know I'm going to be wet, cleaning and mopping my floors maybe," Anna confessed.

She suggested going for a slip-on sandal style made from leather or something more feminine instead.

Gladiator sandals

The problem with gladiator sandals is there's just too much going on, Anna said.

Not only that, but if you've got flat feet like the fashion from they can make your feet like wider and flatter - which isn't ideal.

Go for something without an ankle strap, since they can cut off your legs making you appear shorter.

Anna picked out a pair of black leather sandals from Zara which she recommended instead.

Chunky trainers

There's nothing wrong with wanting to be comfortable and wearing trainers, as long as you stay away from chunky styles, the pro explained.

Generally speaking, anything you'd wear to exercise in shouldn't be worn outside of the gym.

That doesn't mean you have to ditch the trainers altogether - a simple white pair will look tonnes more elegant and expensive.
