The expert warned against following trends on TikTok and not looking after your skin between injectable appointments.

Her 17 years in the industry mean she knows the red flags you should be on the lookout for when letting someone put a needle in your face.

One of Carmen’s non-negotiables - and arguably the most important - is bargain hunting for treatments.

A practitioner offering a good deal to-good-to-be-true is a red flag.

Speaking to , she said: "I feel like (discounts are) devaluing the skill behind the syringe.

"I spend a lot of time, money and energy training myself and others to learn the latest and greatest.

“This industry is forever changing, and if you are not seeking to learn and grow, then you are not investing in your patient outcomes."

She also advised against getting your treatments done in an “unwelcoming” office.

Carmen explained: "The last feeling I want you to have is that of your [doctor’s] office.

“Aesthetics is very much medicine, but who is to say it can’t be comfortable, inviting and cosy?"

Some of Carmen’s non-negotiables are personal, too.

She warned against trying “gimmicky” skincare at home with no medical advice.

The injector said: "From ‘slugging’ to at-home micro-needling, the kitchen ingredients that folks decide to use as a holy grail.

“Honestly, the things that people tell me they’ve done in their homes is truly baffling.

“Not only are some of them disturbing, but some can cause so much more harm than good.”

Those wanting injectables should also ensure they have a good skincare regime.

Lastly, clients should ensure they follow their post-care instructions at all costs.

Carmen said: "I don’t say this stuff for my health.

"There are certain dos and don'ts — especially for the first timers — that you should adhere to for the best outcomes and to prevent the product from spreading to places where it shouldn’t."
