The name combines two words - 'Elerra' and 'Servadio'.

Elerra is the city where the manufacturer is based, and Servadio the surname of the man who opened the first Ellesse store.

Servadio put his initials L&S in the original logo - but he eventually combined the Italian pronunciation for the two letters to give the company its modern branding.

He started the brand when he became interested in skiing, but couldn't find any suitable attractive clothing for skiers.

But the logo was created during the 70s when the brand introduced a line of tennis apparel.

The logo featured a semicircle of three fragments - orange representing the sun, and red symbolising a passion for sports.

The image combines elements of tennis - a half ball - and skiing - the front parts of a pair of skis.

Today, the logo is similar to the original version, the only difference being the more saturated colours.

This comes after people found out the meaning behind Guinness' harp logo.

People were also shocked to find out the meaning behind Waitrose's name.
