We tested three pH-changing lipsticks that promise to give you the perfect shade
THE biggest beauty trend of the year is pH-changing make-up.
With the products adapting to your skin tone, it takes some of the guesswork out of picking make-up shades.
This week I test three pH-changing lipsticks.
Budget
Barry M Angelic colour changing lip paint, £5.99, Boots: I used a green version of this when I was younger and loved it, so I was excited to try the new subtle pink hue.
Sadly, the colour change was so minimal I couldn’t work out if it was the shine or any pigment was added.
The balm texture is lovely, but doesn’t last ages, so I felt the need to reapply it pretty often to stop my lips feeling dry.
I think there are better balm and pH-changing lipstick options out there – and I’m going to have to track down the green version to see if it lives up to my memories!
Mid-range
Indu One & Only pH GlowOil, £16, : Beauty brand Indu launched earlier this month and is specifically aimed at teens, but it’s a world away from the saccharine lip smackers of my youth and, as far as I’m concerned, suitable for all ages.
The clever oil turns from clear to a personalised pink-tone within around ten seconds of application.
You can use it as a blusher too, but I found it wasn’t quite bright enough on my cheeks and the formula slightly too tacky.

If you don’t normally wear loads of make-up, it would add a lovely hint of colour, but it is definitely more suited to lips and sits somewhere in between the budget and luxury items in terms of colour pay-off.
Luxury
Givenchy Le Rouge Interdit balm, No. 10 Revealing Colour, £34, : At first glance, the black coloured bullet is super-intimidating.
I’m extremely pale, so dark lipsticks tend to wash me out and make me look positively ghostly.
But as soon as I swiped it on my lips, the black hue turned into a sheer cherry shade which was very flattering!
It’s the most nourishing of the three, and the hint of colour makes me look more put-together.
It’s also the most pigmented of the three while still ticking the no make-up make-up box.
I’m obsessed.
