She revealed one of the easiest ways to keep the house warm is to keep the curtains open while the sun is out.

“Keep your curtains open to get in as much heat as you can but as soon as it starts to get dark then close them to keep out the cold as the temperature drops," Cass revealed.

It's also a good idea to buy thick-lined curtains which will help keep the cold air out and the heat in.

Next, you should go on the hunt for any drafts in your home to stop the heat escaping.

“Door stoppers, window sealant and even just some duck tape around the loft hatch can help massively," she added.

The mum also recommended moving upstairs, especially if you work from home as heat tends to rise which in theory should make the top floor warmer for longer.

Layering up on your clothes may seem obvious, but it's really effective for staying warm.

Cass said: “My Mam used to tell me that if your head and your feet were warm then the rest of you would be too so I have some lovely thick socks to pop on to warm me up

“I draw the line at wearing a hat at home though so the heating would definitely go on if that was needed.”

Snuggling under a blanket will also be beneficial - and electric ones will make sure you stay toasty without the heating on.

The mum also recommends having a hot water bottle which she uses in a multitude of ways.

" You can use it to snuggle up to on the settee while you’re watching TV, put your feet on it while you’re working at your desk and they’re even great to use to warm your bed up with it before you get in on a night," she wrote on her blog, .

A cup of tea solves almost every problem - not only will it warm you from the inside out but it will also keep your hands toasty.

Cass' savvy tips can help keep you warm throughout winter without turning on the heating or buying lots of new gadgets.
