I’m a party queen – I tested 8 hangover cures celebs swear by…and how combining two really worked
Which actress swears by the hair of the dog method?
HAD one too many at the Christmas party and need a miracle cure for your banging head?
Yasmin Harisha puts eight celebrity hangover hacks to the test and scores them out of five . . .
Billy Connolly – Irn Bru
COMEDIAN Billy, 81, claims that bright orange fizzy drink Irn Bru, which is made in his native Scotland, has “saved my life on so many Sunday mornings”.
YASMIN SAYS: “This drink is a serious life-saver and has cured my hangovers.
“It contains caffeine, re-energises you almost instantly and stops your stomach from feeling like a washing machine.
“I have marked it down slightly due to the level of sugar, and the tangy taste it has.
“But for desperate times, I would very much recommend this.”

Julia Roberts – carrot juice and champagne
IN true A-list style, actress Julia, 56, likes to keep things fancy, saying: “The best way to deal with a hangover is by finding a balance between champagne and carrot juice. It works when I alternate between the two.”
YASMIN SAYS: “What’s not to love about champagne?
“When I tried it, it gave me a pick-me-up and got me moving again.
“But I wasn’t a fan of the carrot juice. I did start to feel myself again after two glasses, but it was only a quick fix.
“Once the alcohol was out of my system, I felt twice as hungover.
“Plus, champagne as a hangover cure just isn’t sustainable financially.
“Sorry, Jules.”

Prince William – jellied eels
IT’S hard to imagine the 41-year-old heir to the throne out on the lash.
However, in 2020 he said he “ate jellied eels on a hangover after a bender” and thought it was “quite good”.
YASMIN SAYS: “I would not recommend this.
“In fact, I couldn’t actually bring myself to properly try it, as the smell made me want to vomit.
“It smells like cat food, and the texture is horrendous.
“I ended up spitting it out. I couldn’t risk swallowing it as my stomach felt dodgy already.”

Adele – full English
SPEAKING to Vogue, 35-year-old Adele once revealed she is “always hungover” and claimed that a full English Breakfast is the secret to helping her recover after a heavy night.
YASMIN SAYS: “Adele definitely knows what she is talking about. The full English breakfast was exactly what I needed to help get me through the day after a few drinks.
“The meat-to-carb ratio was perfect and I felt much better after I ate it.
“However, I was very full afterwards and felt I needed some sugar to perk me up.”

Ed Sheeran – flat Sprite
SINGER Ed, 32, knows a thing or two about partying and even wrote a song called Drunk.
So it stands to reason he has some tricks for the morning after, saying a glass of flat Sprite “is a good cure”.
YASMIN SAYS: “It really works, and it was super refreshing.
“The fact that it was flat helped prevent any bloating or gas, which can definitely make for an uncomfortable stomach with a hangover.”

Cameron Diaz – McMuffin and beer
ACTRESS Cameron, 51, likes to keep things old school and goes for a McDonald’s Egg McMuffin and a beer.
She said: “You need to drink more of the alcohol you’ve killed yourself with – the classic hair of the dog.”
YASMIN SAYS: “This approach brought me back to my university days.
“The McMuffin is affordable, filling and gets you over the hurdle which can sometimes feel impossible.
“The beer is always going to work, too.”
“It’s a great short-term fix, but a couple of hours later I needed more food and felt dehydrated.”

Kate Hudson – tomato juice, fresh fruit and vitamins
HOLLYWOOD star Kate, 44, keeps her hangovers healthy, saying: “I’ll drink lots of tomato juice, eat fresh fruit and an avocado, and take loads of vitamins.”
YASMIN SAYS:“This hangover cure leaves you feeling guilt-free, but it isn’t a quick fix.
“The fresh fruit is probably the best part as it helps with hydration.
“However, two days after the bender I felt great as it had got my vitamins and sugar levels back to normal.
“It was just a slog to get to that point.”

Verdict
OVERALL, the full English breakfast and Irn Bru came out on top for me.
By combining them, I was able to get my sugar levels up, and got rid of that dodgy washing machine feeling in my stomach.
The Irn Bru gave me enough energy to get through the day without a headache or feeling like a grey cloud was hanging over me.
I must stock up before the next party . . .
