CASH GRAB

I won a million on the lottery & treated my family to a luxury holiday – they called me selfish & expected cash handouts

It seems his family expected more than a luxury holiday after he won the lottery

A MAN has been left stunned after his family expected cash from his lottery winnings.

He revealed that he won a million pound on the lottery and decided to take 13 close family members for a lavish holiday.

Most of us dream of hitting the jackpot and fantasise about all the things we can spend that money on.

But the man decided to be sensible and put most of it away in savings while still treating his family.

He won $1million (£790,00) but wanted to keep his winnings "as quiet as possible."

The lucky winner knew it was "nowhere near enough to retire anytime soon," but knew it would help during financially hard times.

He decided to keep it a secret - only telling immediate family members as he had heard horror stories about past winners being inundated by people they knew for cash handouts.

Instead of giving anyone cash, he planned a luxury trip to the Bahamas for 13 family members, paying for flights, a villa and meals while there.

But by the end of the trip, it seemed his family members were hoping for more.

"The trip was amazing - but towards the end, it started to feel like some of my family members were expecting… more?" he added.

"They kept asking whether I had any 'big surprises' planned for the end of the trip, or whether I was planning to do something 'over the top' to bring the vacation to a close."

To finish the vacation, he took them all out for a big meal, but when he got home his aunt sent him disappointing email.

She wrote that several family members were "upset" that he hadn't shared his winnings in a "more generous way" - insinuating they had expected him to give cash handouts.

To top it off his brother also called him after the break and branded him "selfish" for "shoving his new money in their faces" and suggested he should have just given them money rather than a holiday.
