Fortunately, sleep expert Chris Tattersall, has revealed five ways to help us all keep toasty while at home without turning the heating on.

Being too cold at night can disturb you sleep, so it's important to keep snug to prep you for the day ahead.

The right duvet

The most effective way to feel that extra level of warmth at bedtime is with a thicker, greater weight duvet says the sleep expert.

The ideal duvet should be around 13.5 to 15 togs but for an extra layer of cosiness, Chris recommends adding a wool mattress topper for an extra layer of warmth.

Lock it in

According to the sleep pro, choosing natural bedding is the best way to get a peaceful night's sleep - and wool is the perfect solution thanks to its temperature-regulating abilities.

The Managing Director of added: "It's particularly beneficial in winter, wool bedding acts as an effective natural insulator, establishing a personalised micro-climate for the sleeper.

"This ensures an optimal temperature throughout the night and a sense of snug cosiness despite the colder conditions."

Layer up

When the cold weather kicks in we often switch to warm and fluffy pyjamas but Chris notes the material you pick can be the key to keep the heat locked in without making you sweaty.

He adds: "Synthetic fibres trap in this heat, making you more likely to wake feeling damp and uncomfortable.

"Wearing socks to sleep is also an option, as the blood vessels in your feet are closer to the skin’s surface, meaning that wearing socks will warm them up, making you feel toasty all over."

He also revealed wearing socks to bed can actually make you fall asleep faster too.

Hotting up

We all want to get into bed and instantly feel snug.

That's why Chris recommends preparing a hot water bottle in the evening and putting it under your covers.

By bedtime your bed would have warmed up so you can instantly drift off without shivering.

The final touch

The sleeping expert from Woolroom adds that a blanket can be the final touch to keep you snug during the cold nights - especially ones made from wool.

"Using wool products in your sleep environment is scientifically proven to give you a 25% deeper more regenerative sleep, meaning you will not only be warmer, but be better rested as well," he explains.
