Savvy shoppers share little-known trick to get £11 worth of Huggies baby wipes for just £2
One woman grabbed two boxes and only paid £4 for nearly 1000 wet wipes
BABY products can be ridiculously expensive – especially if parents choose the branded items.
But one mum revealed how she managed to buy 448 baby wet wipes for just £2.
Jodie-leigh Kendall took to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group where she shared three photographs.
She commented: “Huggies sensitive wipes still scanning at £11 but got these for £2.”
The first photo showed a large box of Huggies Extra Care Sensitive wet wipes containing eight packs, each with 56 wipes inside.
She used the Scan & Go shopping system, seemingly at her local Asda, and the box of wet wipes showed up as £11 on the screen.
But on her receipt, she only paid £2 for them.
Everyone wanted to know how Jodie-Leigh managed to grab such a bargain.
Kulsum Kadva asked: “How did you get these for £2 and which store please?”
Jodie-Leigh replied: “On the box, there is a sticker covering the original barcode.”
Jade Barrington-Clark commented: “Did you peel the sticker off?
“Haah I went today and scanned at £11 noticing the sticker on the original barcode.”
Jodie-Leigh claimed: “Yeah one of the workers actually told me about it – [I] was told to use self-scan and they can’t refuse.”
She claimed twice how a “worker told her to do it [peel the sticker off]”.
Beckie McAnespie also paid £2 a box: “I peeled off the sticker too and self scanned and for two boxes for two quid a pop on Thursday.”
Jodie-Leigh defended herself when people asked why she wasn’t paying the new price.
She explained how one of the boxes of wipes she had put into her basket scanned at £2 and the other at £11 and that’s when she noticed the new bar code sticker and queried it to an employee.
She added: “If an error is spotted online of a price being wrong everyone jumps on it.
“This is the exact same, the first box I bought had no sticker on [and] scanned at £2 – [then] I just realised they had put the stickers on.”
Shoppers should check with an Asda colleague to confirm the correct price of the box before buying.
It is understood there was a pricing error with the original barcode on the box of wet wipes, meaning they were £2 for a box instead of £2 per pack.
To rectify this, a new barcode sticker has been placed over the top of the original barcode.
But, according to some Asda customers, it seems not all boxes of wet wipes have a new barcode sticker that scans at £11, meaning you can still buy them for £2.
For Emma Jones, however, the old £2 price tag didn’t work.
She said: “I did that peel it off and when I got to self-scan [an employee] came over because the weight came up an when he came to do it and saw it said £2.
“He said ‘ohh these aren’t £2 for the box it’s just for 1 pack’ and took them off me.
“But I think they all know what’s wrong with these wipes and just say that to people so we can’t buy them.”
Boxes of eight Huggies Sensitive wet wipes are not available to buy online at the time of writing this article to confirm the correct price.
Customers should check with an Asda colleague in store who can confirm the correct price per box.
But, Asda is selling three packs of 56 wet wipes for £3.50 on Rollback.
Or 12 packs of 56 wet wipes for £9 if you prefer the Pure version.
