In an informative clip shared to , she begins by urging people to use the supermarket apps.

"So the supermarket you shop at more than likely has an app," she explains.

"Now, I don't recommend spending a lot of extra cash every single month for the convenience of supermarket delivery services - just downloading the supermarket store apps can show you weekly deals and vouchers that will help you save money.

"So browse through what they have to offer before you make the trip in person and see if there's any specials that you can take advantage of, or even work into your meal plan schedule."

She goes on to say that you can also download various other supermarket store apps so you can compare prices on staple items so you know which is cheapest.

Next, Rachel recommends to meal plan.

"This is something that I'm very passionate about," she says. "I think it's really key and Sunday nights, this is when I do it.

"I look to see our schedule ahead - what nights do we have to cook? What nights are we going to be out? Take an inventory of what we have and create a plan.

"Having a schedule for each night of the week makes it so much easier when it comes to preparing dinner."

Rachel goes on to say that the third way to save money on the food shop is to choose the generic brand over name brands, while her fourth suggestion is to find cheap protein options.

" I always love to find quality budget-friendly meat at Costco and it always helps me to buy meat and bulk freeze it and use it for later," she explains.

The money-saving whizz points out that another great way to cut your food bill in half is to "say no to anything you really don't need."

She continues: "So even though an item is on sale, avoid spending money just to save money because there's definitely a time and a place to experiment and pick up a few new things...so stick to your list."

Rachel also advises shoppers to buy fresh produce when it's in season because it'll be cheaper, and to "use breakfast foods to your advantage."

She explains: "A lot of breakfast foods are usually cheaper than traditional dinner items.

";So, if you do breakfast for dinner once a week or if you work in some cinnamon oatmeal into the snack category of your budget, thinking outside the box usually will help you with your budget.

"My kids think that this is the greatest thing if we make pancakes for dinner and some bacon....and it's so cheap."

Moving onto her eighth tip, Rachel warns that when buying in bulk such as products in Costco, ask yourself whether you're really going to get through that huge jar of peanut bitter.

Next, she highlights the importance of making extra and freezing it for later.

"Every now and again if you can double your recipe and save the other half for another night, it will save you some money," the money-saving guru notes.

Rachel also points out that going meatless for a while will also save you some money because it's protein that's most expensive, as will using what you already have.

"So take inventory of what's in your freezer and refrigerator and pantry," she urges.

And last but not least, Rachel recommends using a budgeting app so you can keep tabs on exactly how much money you have to spend.

Many grateful shoppers were grateful to Rachel for sharing the money-saving tips, and were eager to vouch that they really worked.

"I think 'Meal Plan' should be #1. It made a big difference for me," wrote one.

A second penned: "We do breakfast for supper as well! The kids love it! They help make the pancakes (adding chocolate chips), eggs and sausage or bacon. It's nice they chip in to make the food so I get a break!"

And a third added; "Thanks for these ideas! I can attest to the fact that they all work, as I've done them all for years."
