Home expert shares the ‘simplest’ way to tackle condensation and mould in the home for just a quid

Condensation can be one of the early signs that mould is on the way - thankfully a home expert has revealed how to stop it once and for all.

Founder of , Jamie Jones, told the Daily Record that putting plastic on your windows can save energy, stop damp and mould, and make you healthier.

He : "When it comes to mould, remember that prevention is key. It's important to stay observant and address any signs of moisture or mould growth quickly so that, with proper maintenance, you can keep it at bay and create a healthier environment for yourself and your family."

But an easy way to stop condensation in its tracks is by putting plastic over your windows.

"It is a cost-effective method that acts as insulation, minimising heat loss in colder months," he explained.

"The plastic also acts as a barrier against drafts, keeping cold air out and preventing warm air from escaping, causing rooms to feel warmer and ultimately lowering energy bills. This is especially beneficial for older or poorly insulated windows."

The savvy contraption works by trapping air between it and the window.

This in turn prevents the build-up of condensation, keeping homes dry and mould free.

Condensation is when water collects as droplets on a cold surface when humid air is in contact with it.

The excess moisture itself isn't harmful, but it can turn into mould.

Mould grows by producing tiny particles called spores - these are airborne and can grow quickly in your home.

You can buy window film kits online - but if you want a cheaper alternative - cling film will do the trick and it can be purchased for just £1 in Dunelm.

To apply it to the window, measure the cling film out to fit and then use a hairdryer to shrink the plastic and make it stick.

He added that an extra layer of plastic on windows can also be beneficial in the summer.

An extra benefit is that some types of window plastic provide UV protection, which can help to block harmful ultraviolet rays that can fade furniture and also increase the risk of skin cancer for people who sit close to the window in warmer months when it is sunny," he added.
