Is it safe for men to sleep in their boxers? Here’s what it can do to your willy
IF YOU'RE a man that prefers to sleep in your pants, it could be time to rethink your sleeping habits for the sake of your manhood.
New advice from a men's health expert advises men to go commando when they sleep for the good of their health.
Why shouldn't men sleep in their boxers?
Dr Brian Steixner, Director of the Institute for Men's Health at Jersey Urology Group in the US, advised men that sleeping in your boxers or briefs could lead to fertility problems.
According to the medic, sleeping in underwear can affect the quality of sperm because men's crotches become too warm in the night.
He said: "Your nether regions need to be just the right temperature in order to optimise sperm production.
"More bacteria makes for a higher likelihood that any chafed or irritated skin down there becomes infected."
Why should men sleep naked?
Some people prefer the free feeling of sleeping without pyjamas or underwear, but it turns out that it's actually great for the body too.
Firstly, it's more hygienic, as wearing clothes in bed can encourage bacteria to grow, so sleeping in the buff allows your skin to breathe.
When you get too hot, it can disrupt the release of anti-ageing hormones, so allowing your body temperature to cool will having you looking younger for longer.
Also, if your body temperature is lower, you'll burn more calories keeping warm, so it can help you lose weight.
It also brings you closer to your partner, as skin to skin touching increases the release of the love hormone oxytocin, which also helps tackle stress and depression.
