People are only just realising why there’s a bow on the front of their knickers, and it’s leaving them stunned

THEY might seem solely decorative, and completely "pointless".

But there's a good reason why knickers almost always have a little bow on the front.

A woman from underwear brand Mori took to to share the reason, admitting she "grew up wondering" what they were for.

"They exist for practical reasons rooted in the pre-elastic days (think: way before the 1930s)," she continued.

"The little ribbon and bow system through the eyelets helps keep the undergarment secured and fitted.";

In addition, the bows are "really handy" when you're getting dressed in the dark and don't know the front from the back of your knickers.

"Keep in mind that this was pre-elastic, so it was pretty much pre-domestic electricity as well!" she added.

"Maybe the reasons they were invented aren’t relevant to our everyday lives and are purely embellishments in the current context…" she continued.

"But looking inward - I love how these bows evoke a sense of femininity.

"It feels familiar, nostalgic, and personal in a way that I can’t find the right words for."

Alongside her words, she shared a video of three pairs of Mori knickers, all of which had a different coloured bow on the front.

"This is adorable!" one person commented on the post, while another called them "so sweet".

But not everyone is a fan of the little bows, with many people on Reddit admitting they even go as far as cutting them off.

"that stupid little bow is so juvenile and weird," one person argued.

However, another hit back, writing: "I personally love it.

"I am completely blind without my glasses and sometimes I need to put on knickers in a hurry.

"This is how I can just feel which part goes in front."

"I never paid them much mind until I started teaching my kiddo how to dress herself," someone else said.

"Now the bows come in handy to orient her knickers properly, bow to belly button!"

"They are super adorable to me," another wrote.

"Everyone has their own taste, though!"

While someone else said: "Actually like them, I think they are cute and make me feel cute.

"I actually get a little sad when they fall off over time!"
