Everyone’s fooled by how many circles they see in mind-boggling optical illusion – you have a high IQ if you spot all 16
Were you able to spot all 16?
THERE are 16 circles hidden in this striped, 3D-like optical illusion.
It is extremely hard to focus on finding circles while you are staring at this barcode-like image.
“First time viewers of this display invariable do not see the 16 circles segmented from the background,” wrote illusion creator, in 2006.
“Rather, they see a series of rectangles that they frequently describe as ‘door panels,'” he explained.
They are also known as coffers which are sunken panels commonly found on ceiling.
Coffers are often in the shape of a square, rectangle, or octagon and decorate famous structures like the Pantheon in Rome, Italy.
“The illusion pits segmentation cues against what appears to be a very strong prior to interpret the image as a series of 3-D structures ‘coffers’ with closed boundaries,” wrote Norcia.
Benefits of brainteasers and optical illusions
Researchers have developed many tests to show how various brain regions react to brainteasers and optical illusions. There are many benefits.
- They are not only entertaining, but they also shed light on how our brains interpret visual data.
- By giving your brain a little workout regularly, you enhance your ability to focus and observe details.
- Studies have shown people who regularly challenge themselves with optical illusions and puzzles see big improvements in their problem-solving skills, concentration, and attention.
- Improved concentration and attention span can help prevent cognitive decline in old age.
- Optical illusions can improve eyesight by allowing you to see small print.
Norcia used both horizontal and vertical lines that easily blend into the background, making it difficult to spot all of the circles.
The lines are also different thicknesses and shades of grey making it challenging to focus.
Set a 15-minute timer to find the 16 circles and prove your high IQ.
Once you train your eyes to spot the circles, it becomes easier to spot them.
If you found this illusion to be too easy, try this one for an extra challenge.
Try to spot the hidden animal in this collection of squawking owls in 12 seconds.
All of the animals are the same color, but keep your eyes peeled for the imposter.
For another test, try to find the lucky clover in the flower garden.
This image is a color explosion making it pretty to look at but hard to focus on.
