THERE are plenty of items we see every day that we don't think twice about.
But one person has pondered exactly why we have Julie balconies attached to flats - and the answers are blowing their minds.

While the tiny balconies - usually made from iron bars seem to be too small to have a function, it couldn't be further from the case.
One social media user posted a picture of the infamous balcony to look for answers.
They wrote: "What’s the point in building these “balconies?""
While most of us have seen them on blocks of flats, they can seem to have no purpose.

They usually come designed using iron bars or a small glass panel with a door attached to the wall.
But Juliet balconies have no outside space - leaving people question what the purpose of them are.

However it turns out theirs a multitude of reasons to have them built into flats - from keeping people safe so there's no accidents to helping the fire brigade reach people in the case of an emergency.
They can also be beneficial to higher up flats to allow more air flow as well as let more light in.

But that didn't stop people from making a joke of the question in the Reddit forum .

Meanwhile a fourth said: "Juliet Balcony - You can cry out for the love of your life!"
Despite some people's hilarious comments, it turns out there is actually two reasons for Juliet balconies.

Balcony experts, confirmed the theory as well.
They wrote: "Serving as a "guard" or security barrier for sliding doors or inward opening full-height French Doors on a first-floor room or above, a Juliet balcony allows for increased natural light and fresh air when the doors are open."
Someone else added: “Not mentioned yet, it also acts as a fire escape and access for fire brigade as they are usually on flats/apartments."
