However, style lover, who goes by @ on TikTok, was convinced she had achieved the mission successfully with her thrifted ball gown.

Although at the time of purchase the charity shopping fan wasn't too sure where she'd wear the vintage maxi frock to, she was soon invited to a wedding - and this is when she realised it would be the perfect occasion to show off the luxe outfit.

The show-stopper of a dress was a black number with a velvet-look top section, whilst the flowy bottom half had a more shiny satin feel.

Meanwhile, the gorgeous scoop neckline made for a flattering and feminine look, as the thrifty shopper had paired it with a simple yet stunning golden pendant.

In , the wedding guest had kept the hairdo quite simple, styling her bouncy curls in a chic low bun with a couple of strands framing her face.

Seeking advice from fellow social media users, the young woman wondered: ''Genuine question - is this dress too extra for a wedding?

''Help? idk [I don't know] what to do with this dress,'' the cash-savvy fashionista went on in the caption.

Unfortunately for the young woman, the black dress wasn't everyone's cup of tea, as over a thousand people flocked to comments to slam the outfit choice.

For the most part, critics had an issue with the colour of the ''too extra'' fit, which some said also belonged in the bedroom.

Another agreed, adding: ''I’m European and this is considered something you wear to bed.''

As well as thinking the dark hue made the frock look like something a mourner would wear to ''a funeral'', the dress was also deemed to make heads turn away from the newlyweds.

''I would go for something a little less noticeable if that makes sense,'' a viewer strongly recommended.

''You don't want to upset the bride or steal her limelight.''

''The silhouette of the dress makes it seem like a black wedding dress,'' a fourth echoed the sentiment.

Luckily for the fashionista - who was also dubbed ''black widow'' - there was plenty of support and love for the thrifted outfit.

One advised: ''I would ask the bride! I’d think it’s perfect but it depends on her style!''
