Barrie's first grandchild received a £1 million house
ONE of Britain’s first gay dads, Barrie Drewitt-Barlow has welcomed his second granddaughter and it seems he already has big shopping plans in place.
His daughter Saffron Drewitt-Barlow, 24, announced the birth of her son on Instagram on Friday after a ‘complicated’ arrival.
And proud dad and granddad Barrie was quick to congratulate Saffron and her husband Connor on their new arrival.
Sharing snaps of Connor Jr on , Barrie wrote: “My baby had her second baby this weekend x i want to post right away but i wanted Saffron and Connor her husband to announce it before i did.
“Anyway here he is, Connor Jr, “CJ” as we will call him! Born a month early, he is currently in Broomfield hospital Chelmsfords’, NICU, where the amazing nursing staff have provided round the clock 24 hour care for her and the baby.
“Many complications over th epast 2 weeks meant she needed an emergency C-section, but im so happy to report that mother and baby are doing well, thanks to the brilliant care of the amazing staff at Broomfield.🎉 (sic)”
After sharing praise for the hospital, Barrie went on to reveal he had big shopping plans for he and his grandson.
“I cant wait to go shopping for this one!” he continued.
“Maybe a helicopter OR to start his investment portfolio of, a nice London Apartment!! watch this space ………. (sic)”
The Manchester-born businessman is no stranger to extravagant gifts when it comes to his family.
The last time Saffron gave birth to daughter baby Marina in June last year her dad celebrated the news of their growing family with a push present.
Barrie gave his eldest daughter a £200,000 Range Rover as a push present.
And Barrie, who is worth a staggering £200 million previously revealed that he gifted baby Marina a £1million house, which they will rent out to give the youngster an income.
According to the business tycoon, Marina was also treated to a lavish £5,000 Dior pram and pushchair from Saffron’s brother Aspen.
Who are Tony and Barrie Drewitt-Barlow?
BARRIE Drewitt-Barlow and ex-husband Tony were Britain's first gay dads, fathering a twin boy and girl through surrogacy.
The couple met in 1987 when Tony stopped at a petrol station in Manchester to ask for directions.
At the time, Tony had won the runner up prize in the the New Scientist of the year award.
The pair went to court to be allowed to have same-sex parents on the birth certificates as “parent one” and “parent two” instead of “mother and father”. It was a historic case for the LGBTQ community.
Saffron and Aspen were conceived using the donor eggs of one woman, Tracie McCune, and were then carried in the womb of another woman, Rosalind Bellany.
Although Barrie and Tony each fathered a child, they have never revealed which dad is the biological father of which twin as they want to be equal parents.
They have made their money from various business ventures including a trans-Atlantic surrogacy business and a global medical research company. They also earn cash from real estate.
The couple split in 2019, after Barrie confirmed he had fallen for daughter Saffron’s ex Scott.
Saffron and husband Conor tied the knot in Vegas last year and move to Miami for a while but it seems they’ve gone back to Machester to be close to family.
The brunette beauty, who made headlines when she and her twin brother Aspen became the first children in the UK to be registered as having two fathers and no mother, shared their happy news on Instagram on Friday.
She wrote: “”Conor Junior Drewitt-Barlow-Tucker.”
“We are so in love with you baby.”
The young tot was named after his father and was born in Essex.
