My weekly food shop costs £40 for my family of 5 – I swear by the special Uber Eats day to bag groceries for pennies

A THRIFTY mum-of-four has spilled the beans on how she feeds her family for just £40 a week.

Cash-savvy Charlene Woracker, from South Yorkshire, took to TikTok to reveal the simple way she’s been able to slash the food costs, with five mouths to feed.

According to the single parent, she swears by a special Uber Eats day to bag essential groceries without forking out a fortune.

Charlene, who regularly shares easy money-saving tips and tricks on , said the platform offers food ”reduced to pennies” every Monday.

Amongst some of the goodies thrifty shoppers can bag are bananas slashed from £1.15 to just 58p, garlic cut from 70p to an affordable 35p, an avocado reduced from 95p to 48p.

If you choose to do your grocery shopping on Mondays, the app will also offer a punnet of fresh strawberries slashed from a whopping £3.10 to £1.55, as well as aromatic coriander on sale from £2 to just a quid, saving you a staggering 50 per cent.

Charlene explained that her four kids mainly snack on fruit, so she will ensure to ”get a lot of it”.

”It really helps out, especially in the half-term,” she said in .

After she had ordered everything to stock up the fridge and cupboards with – which cost her £41.39 – the delivered goods arrived to her doorstep a mere hour later.

The first bag of the monster haul – which saw her save a fortune – contained a bag of crunchy carrots, bananas, a tin of baked beans, tomatoes, Greek style yoghurt and a large cucumber.

There were also punnets of juicy British strawberries, blueberries, Waitrose spreadable for toast and three zesty lemons.

The massive Uber Eats haul also included an avocado, a ready-made salad, mushrooms, a large bottle of milk, olives and two lots of eggs – as Charlene does ”a lot of baking”.

”There’s such a decent amount, I can plan five dinners and five lunches around this,” said the thrifty mum who had also bagged a chicken, a bag of spuds, as well as pack of meaty sausages.

”I will also spend £20 on top at Aldi for some breakfast bits, snacks and a bit more meat.”

Raving over the Monday promotion, Charlene went on in the comments: ”It’s amazing, it’s saved me so much.”

Responding to one viewer, the thrifty mum said: ”They have different shops, I did Waitrose and found that everything was extremely fresh and in date.”

One said: ”Love half price Mondays, also just eat has half price on Wednesday if that’s any help.”

Another chimed in: ”I use Uber fresh Monday and on Deliveroo they have deals for half price items in Sainsbury’s, Co-op and Morrisons and Waitrose.”

”Real food, healthy and highly nutritious, well done!” a third praised Charlene.
