But if you reckon you can offer the ideal environment and lifestyle to a dog, you may want to listen up.

This because one expert in the field, Amir Anwary, has taken to TikTok, to spill the beans about five popular breeds he'd never own due to a plethora of reasons, including hefty vet bills.

Sausage dog

The first pick that had made it onto the list was the adorable Dachshund - also known as the sausage dog - which the guru warned is ''prone to back problems''.

In , Amir explained that the Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) the pooches are prone to could ''range from mild back pain to full paralysis behind the limbs''.

Although this can be fixed with surgery, the operation is ''extremely distressing and extremely expensive''.

''I, as a dog owner, would not want to risk getting a Dachshund for this reason,'' he said, adding that a staggering one in four of every sausage dog ''will be affected by IVDD''.

''It's a no from me.''

Labrador

While other experts have said this breed is ''great for first-time owners'' and is ''amazing with kids'', Labrador is ''very food-driven'' and their appetite doesn't seem to have an end.

According to Amir, who posts under the username @, not only will they ''pick up anything from the floor'', but they also tend to become ''overweight'' as time goes on.

''This is actually a genetic thing with Labradors - they're prone to picking up weight,'' Amir warned, adding that it's ''impossible to keep them skinny''.

They're characterised by skin folds - and these very skin folds can also cause poor Shar Peis quite a few issues, such as dermatitis, Amir claimed.

''It's an infection inbetween the skin folds because they capture moisture, which is not ideal.''

Warning pet lovers to best avoid getting this breed, the vet whizz added that Sharp Peis ''also suffer from a condition called entropion''.

This is where the upper eyelid folds over onto their eye, which can cause damage to the cornea.

Belgian Malinois

Unless you're a health fanatic and like to be active - at all times - this breed is not for you, he explained

Another breed that had landed in the clip was the Belgian Malinois - a pooch Amir said is ''way too clever''.

Not only is this breed intelligent and requires ''way too much mental stimulation'', but the wet warned Belgian Malinois loves being active - at all times.

''There are not enough hours in my day to keep a Belgian Malinois happy and stimulated - and if you don't keep them stimulated, they will become destructive.''

The fifth and final breed that had made it onto the shortlist was the adorable French Bulldog, also commonly referred to as ''Frenchies''.

Sharing his verdict on the cute pooch, the vet said: ''Oh my word, they allergic to planet earth - and if it's not allergies, it is back problems.''
