Whether it’s a glamorous, over-the-top setup or a cozy, understated design, their decorations are sure to inspire holiday cheer and sleigh your expectations.

But how far can be too far, and which celebrity is best to take inspiration from?

Interiors expert Liv Conlon, who runs , says it’s important to not overcrowd the tree.

She says: “When choosing your festive decorations, stick to a colour palette – lovely classic reds, golds and greens and whites, with subtle patterns or solid hues always present a more refined look.

“A unified colour scheme creates harmony and elevates your decs.

“Make sure to add personal touches throughout your home. Incorporate sentimental ornaments or DIY elements to make your Christmas decorations feel unique.

“Avoid overcrowding. Less is often more, especially if you’re going for a sophisticated style.

“Don’t go too trendy. Trends come and go, so stick with timeless decorations and they’ll last for years to come.

“Wreaths need to be minimalist. Go for real or realistically-looking greenery, and avoid huge plastic designs.

“While oversized candy canes and inflatable snowmen will make your home look like a cheap winter wonderland.”

Here, Liv and interior trends expert at Johanna Constantinou & take a look at how celebrities are celebrating the season with their Christmas decorations this year.

Kourtney Kardashian

Johanna says: “Kourtney showcases a modern, elegant Christmas setup featuring multiple Christmas trees adorned with white lights and red ornaments, creating a festive and symmetrical ambiance.

“The minimalist coffee table below adds a touch of sophistication, with carefully placed candles, books, and greenery, blending holiday warmth with contemporary decor.

She has also opted for red accessories to match the festive theme

“The neutral floor and clean lines of the space allow the sparkling trees to stand out beautifully, making the scene feel luxurious and inviting.”

Kim Kardashian

Johanna says: “Kim’s tree features an enormous, fully decorated white Christmas tree placed in a modern, spacious interior.

“The tree is adorned with bright white lights, creating a glowing effect that enhances its frosted, snowy appearance.

“Although it stretches impressively high, nearly reaching the ceiling of the multi-level space, it does look excessive and wouldn’t work in most people’s homes.”

Mark Wright & Michelle Keegan

Liv says: “Mark’s decorations scream classic Christmas with a modern twist, and I love how approachable they feel.

“The greenery and traditional reds are timeless, but the oversized baubles verge on over-the-top for smaller homes.

“A scaled-down version of this would look amazing and more proportionate in most households.”

Amanda Holden

Liv says: “Amanda’s gone full glam with a mix of metallics and sparkle, which works beautifully in her home. However, it’s a fine line between sophisticated and overdone with this look.

“The wreaths and garlands are stunning, but if your space is smaller, opt for fewer, well-placed pieces to keep it feeling chic rather than crowded.”

Billie Shepherd

Johanna says: “The red and green theme with gold accents creates a classic and cohesive festive look.

“The use of pine branches or artificial greenery adds depth and texture as well.

“I do think this look runs the risk of looking too much, too many ornaments can make the design look cluttered; leave some green areas visible.”

Paris Fury

Liv says: “Paris has gone for a larger-than-life classic red theme for her tree, incorporating over-sized Nutcracker soldiers too.

“I feel as though the decorations are too big and too crowded, and she could have upsized the tree – or downsized the decorations slightly.

“It’s always nice to see some foliage.”

Amy Childs

Liv says: “I love that Amy has gone minimalist for her tree decorations.

“It looks a bit sparse, but from the photo, we can see they’re adding more.

“Tinsel is an interesting choice – a bit of an 80s throwback. But it has elements of nostalgia too.

“I’d suggest incorporating a colour theme so the style looks pulled together.”

Do's and don't for festive decorating

By Tommy Kebbson, of

I think there’s two sides of Christmas and Christmas decor.

One side is the nostalgic decor that might see people use decor that their family has used for years Maybe more mismatched or colourful, rather than matching a particular theme.

n important part of Christmas for many people is the aspect of family, so many may choose a cosier, nostalgic aesthetic around the holidays.

Another way people love to decorate for Christmas is through a more paired-back, minimalist style. It can be lovely to use elegant and stylish decor and be more selective.

I recommend matching with the colour scheme your home already has and being more selective with what you choose to decorate with.

“Personally I always like to find a balance between minimalist and maximalist.

I decorate with the goal of making my home feel warm and joyful during the holiday season. I love pairing back the British maximalism aesthetic.

A tree adorned in solely warm white lights is a stunning statement, but don’t forget to add your own personality in the mix.

Perhaps sift through your decoration collection and choose a single colour scheme and stick with it, to make it your own aesthetic.

A common mistake people make with their Christmas decorations is adding too much and not thinking of the overall theme, which can make the space come off as cluttered and messy rather than festive.

However, if you think too much about the theme and aesthetic, you can lose your personality, which can be a common mistake when people are decorating their home for Christmas.

Trying to adhere to the popular trends or trying to avoid the average Christmas colours and decor, you can also take away any personal aspect.

Another common Christmas decor mistake people make is not planning beforehand.

Failing to prepare your theme and overall colour scheme can make the festive season that much more stressful.

Instead, plan how you are going to decorate beforehand and adhere to your plan, so you don’t get too overwhelmed.
