She explained that she and her husband "have a week off together in summer but rest of the time the kids are on their own, all day, everyday for 6 wks (weeks).

"They won't go to any activity clubs. I can't ask their friends round with no adult in the house.

"I know that they sit on computer with headphones in ALL day!

"I feel sorry for them. My friends are all teachers or loads of holidays so they all having days out or just going to the park etc."

She added that her husband is self-employed, so doesn't get paid holiday.

While she "get(s) few holidays and have to spread them through the year" because of Christmas and staffing issues over the summer.

But that doesn't mean her fellow parents were sympathetic.

"Who is in charge of them? Is the 13 yo (year old) looking after the 10 yo?

"I'd have been raging at 13 if I'd been expected to spend my entire summer in the house babysitting a younger sibling and without being allowed my mates round because 'there was no adult in the house'."
