DOUBLE THE JOY

Woman who went through menopause at 23 is now due to have TWINS thanks to her generous sister

Amber and Chris thought they would never have children but thanks to a generous gift from her younger sister Taylor, they are now expecting twins

A woman who went through the menopause at 23, is now set to become a mother to twins after her generous sister donated her eggs to help the couple conceive.

Melbourne resident Amber thought she, and her partner Chris, wouldn’t be able to have children but is now heavily pregnant.

In late 2014 the couple bought a house together and started to turn their attentions to the idea of having a family.

But their dreams were dashed in 2015 when Amber, aged 23, began having extreme hot flushes and was told by a doctor that her FSH (Follicle-stimulating hormone) level was menopausal.

Amber told : “I was just in shock. I just remember crying and asking, ‘Can I still have children?’”

Shortly afterward Amber was told she had a 7cm cyst on her ovary, which was removed and she was put on a fertility treatment, Clomid for six months.

The treatment caused “terrible” side effects but did not stimulate ovulation in Amber, so the pair decided they would have to have IVF if they were going to have children.

Following two unsuccessful attempts, a second cyst was found on Amber’s left fallopian tube meaning she had to have both her cyst and the tube removed.

With no functioning ovaries and only one fallopian tube, it looked like the couple had run out of options but then they had the idea that Amber’s younger sister Taylor could donate her eggs.

Amber said: "I can't even tell you how it was decided she would donate her eggs. I never asked and they were never offered.

“It was just this bond we had that we would do anything in our power for us to make this work."

Heart-breakingly for the family, the first transfer failed.

Amber said: "We were all broken. Mentally, physically, emotionally and financially I didn't think I could do this again."

But three months later they decided to try again.

Amber said: "The two weeks wait was horrible. One day you think it has worked then the other day you feel like you have failed again.”

Amber continued: "I took the test expecting it to be negative but it was the strongest two lines I had even seen! Well only lines I had ever seen."

Despite suffering from morning sickness during the pregnancy, nothing could stop Amber from feeling overjoyed.

A feeling only exaggerated more when she found out she was having twins, one girl and one boy.

Amber hopes that by sharing her story she will be able to give hope to women suffering from the same disappointment.

She said: "I think so many women believe it's only happening to them but unfortunately it affects so many of us.

"Even if you don't want to speak to someone face to face. Join the many IVF Australia groups on Facebook.

";These women have become my best friends and understand everything thing you are going through.

“No question is right or wrong and you feel so safe. It is a long and hard road definitely not easy but worth it!"

Meanwhile this mum, 32, was told she could never have kids even with IVF but gave birth to four naturally in less than a year.

A top doctor gave her fertility tips before you rush to get an NHS referral or fork out thousands for private IVF treatment.

And there was pure joy as the mum George Michael secretly gave £9,000 to for IVF treatment finally gave birth.
