Mum who ‘never leaves house without make-up’ applies full face of slap while giving birth

A MUM who "never leaves the house without make-up on" has shared bizarre photos of her applying a full face of slap while giving birth.
Claire Hutchins, 27, from Medway, Kent, had been in labour for 40 hours in a birthing pool when she caught a glimpse of her reflection during the birth of her son, Jaxx, on September 14.
Thinking putting on her face would help her "feel more human", the payroll manager asked boyfriend Beau Thompson, 36, for her make-up bag.
She explained: “I was just trying to do anything to keep myself awake and to keep my spirits up.
"I never leave the house without a full face of make-up."
Claire admitted that she doesn’t feel like herself without her slap on and knew this wouldn’t change just because she was giving birth.
She even got a manicure, pedicure, fake tan and her eyelashes done the week before to prepare herself for labour - which went on for a gruelling 52 hours.
Prior to heading into the hospital she had already applied make-up, but touched it up during the birth by applying concealer, powder and waterproof eyeliner.
Claire said: “When people have seen the picture they are surprised and say, ‘I can’t believe you did that.'
“The midwife thought it was quite funny but friends and family who saw it thought it was ‘typical Claire’.
“I caught a glimpse of myself in the tap and I asked my partner to pass me my make-up.
"I didn’t need any blusher as I was already quite pink.
“Beau was surprised when I asked him to hand me my make-up in the pool, hence why he took the picture.
“I had already prepared beforehand by getting my eyelashes, nails and pedicure done - though the birthing pool didn’t do much for my fake tan.
“I’m not going to lie, I didn’t stay that pristine the whole time, but it definitely helped me feel better about myself. I had been awake for three days at that point.
"It helped me snap back to life again after such a stressful labour.
“I had been in labour for about 40 hours when the picture was taken and I had only just been given gas and air and had been allowed to get into the pool."
Claire told how she started wearing make-up to boost her confidence after getting spots as a teenager.
She said: “No one could believe I wore make-up all through my pregnancy and labour, but it was how I felt human again. My dad said my mum was exactly the same.
“I kept getting told that when it was happening I wouldn’t care about how I looked.
"I’ve got to admit, I did start to wonder whether it would be as important to me after hearing my friends’ birth stories, but deep down I knew it’s [wearing make-up is] just who I am.
“If I have more children I don’t think it would be any different. I don’t think I will change. I would probably do it again.”
In April we told how a One Born Every Minute mum gave birth wearing full goth eyeliner.
And earlier this year we reported how a mum-to-be who wanted to live stream the birth of her second child on Facebook was left disappointed when she was told there weren’t any hospital beds available.
