Obese nurse was inspired to lose nearly five stone after reading a VERY cruel text sent to her date
Lettie Barnett was mortified by the brutal taunt and joined a gym the next day
A CRUEL text message spotted by an obese nurse kick-started an incredible weight loss transformation which saw her shed nearly five stone.
Five years ago Lettie Barnett, who weighed 15st 6lbs, was chatting to a boy in a pub.
As he went to the bar to get her a drink, she glanced at his friend’s phone and saw a text message that read: “Are you going to pump Fattie tonight?”
Lettie, from Queensland, Australia, said: “I read that and thought "Holy s**t". I joined the gym the next day.”
The 25-year-old ditched junk food and began working out six days a week – and has now shed 4st 12lb.
Lettie revealed her weight gain started at primary school, but she ballooned even further after going to university, where she lived on a diet of McDonald’s burgers, instant noodles and booze.
She told the : “I ate a lot of chocolate as well, and I always had really bad portion control. I had to finish what was on my plate, no matter how big the meal was.”
Lettie brushed off her family’s concern and even refused to take note when she discovered her BMI put her in the “morbidly obese” category, dismissing it as an “inaccurate qualification.”
But, reeling from the brutal text, she finally vowed to change her life.
She said: “I did a lot of different exercise programs, went through a phase of meal replacement shakes, all of those things worked until I got sick of it and then I would just put the weight back on.”
After losing over 6st, Lettie found her obsession with diet and exercise had actually made her unhappy.
Trying to stay healthy, by cooking her own meals, she soon got bored with her strict diet of chicken, broccoli and rice and she struggled to keep up the food prep after long shifts as a nurse.
She said: “I didn't have a balanced life at all.
“Meal prep was always very boring.
“I used to get home and be really tired and I'd just go across the road and some kind of takeaway.”
Lettie’s outlook changed when she discovered a nutritional meal service called FivePointFour, which delivered balanced meals to her door.
“The style of the food didn't really change, but there's a lot more variety than what I used to cook for myself,' she said.
“I've done it for a year and a half now and I never get sick of it. It was the first thing that was actually maintainable for me.”
Lettie also signed up for Junk Free June last year, cutting out sugar and alcohol and losing six kilos in a month.
She was amazed at the change in her energy levels.
She said: “It showed me how much better my body feels when I'm fuelling it with good food, which is something I'm still learning.

“I have energy, I bounce out of bed in the morning, I don't feel lethargic or bloated.”
Lettie now goes to classes at her local gym six days a week and trains in weights, yoga, boxing, and cardio.
She’s now in the best shape she’s ever been and weighs in at 10st.
She said: “There's a million things out there that will work, but if your head isn't in it then there's no point.
“If you're calling yourself fat and punishing yourself and you just want to get skinny, it won't work - I've done it, and it didn't work.
“I really just want to be the best version of myself. I spent a lot of years, not being the best version of me, and now I want to treat myself right and put myself first.”
An obese woman sparked a debate last month when she lost SEVEN stone on a juice diet - while pregnant.
