ROYAL FASH-OFF

Kate and Meghan are both fashion icons but who gets top Markles in the style stakes?

THEY are both beautiful brunettes who have each found their Prince Charming – and the comparisons don’t stop there.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 35, and Meghan, 36, are style icons whose every dress, shoe and tiara is scrutinised for its sell-out potential.

But despite their similar ages, their fashion choices are quite different.

Kate favours the polished princess look, with simple pencil dresses and nude court shoes being her chosen fashion formula, while Meghan prefers a slightly edgier feel to her outfits.

She told matchesfashion.com: “I love that French way of styling, where if your outfit is pulled together, then something’s got to be dishevelled — your hair, your make-up.”

So it appears highly likely that we can now expect a rather less conservative royal wardrobe with this latest regal coupling.

Here, we compare Kate’s style with her sister-in-law to be Meghan’s in our great British royal fash-off.

The announcement

IT was at this point back in 2010 that we saw the full Kate effect in action as her gorgeous £385 plunging sapphire dress by Issa London sold out within 24 hours.

Seven years later Meghan played safe with a £430 dark emerald shift dress by Italian brand P.A.R.O.S.H. that felt underwhelming compared to her other outfits.

She did team it with stunning £396 Aquazzura heels which gained style points, and a £296 coat by Canadian brand Line the Label.

The casual clash

WHEN it comes to dressing down, a pair of denims is a fail-safe option.

Kate’s favourite J Brand skinny jeans flatter her figure perfectly, but teaming them with a Breton top, blazer and wedges became tiresome after a few wears.

Ripped jeans may not scream of royal protocol, but Meghan’s Mother Denim bottoms are the perfect illustration of laid-back ease, and the oversized white Misha Nonoo “husband” shirt she wore to the Invictus Games put her on our style radar.

The red alert

IT’S no secret that red always looks ravishing on brunettes — and at various times both Kate and Meghan have proved the point perfectly.

The Duchess’s Preen frock is slightly longer as she opted for a matchy-matchy red stiletto, chic chignon in her hair and classic dangly earrings.

Meanwhile, Meghan’s version has a lower neckline teamed with some stylish, leg-lengthening nude shoes and shiny locks, the whole look oozing subtle sex appeal.

The suit-off

STYLISH suits are particularly big news this season, but the trendy two-piece is not always an easy look to pull off well.

Earlier this year Kate opted for a tweed Rebecca Taylor skirt-suit with frayed hems which, although it was undeniably smart, felt a little frumpy for the mum-of-two.

Meghan opted instead for an androgynous shorts suit with unbuttoned white shirt and sexy stilettos which, with her tousled tresses, proved she meant fashion business.

The lace dress

IF it ain’t broke, don’t fix it — that’s why a lace dress is everyone’s favourite frock.

Kate chose a floor-length maxi dress by Diane Von Furstenberg to wear earlier this month at a gala in Kensington Palace, complete with a bouncy blow-dry and chic clutch that was pure elegance.

Meghan, meanwhile, chose to flash the flesh when she wore a similar lace number in California by opting for a mini version that doesn’t quite hit the show-stopper mark.
